When I am going to write an assignment, first I will read the introduction of this assignment. The topic we are going to write and its requirements. For some simple writing projects, I will start writing after I read the requirements. For projects like an essay, I will need more preparation time. First, I will go find some background information which will help me to understand more. In this class, I like to read different sample essay and compare them, I use a similar format in my essay. Then I will think about the subject, create the inspiration for writing as much as possible, and then expand to a larger aspect. I will make a writing plan in my mind, and then read articles about the subject to help me sort out ideas. It is a long process for me to start writing, therefore the beginning is the most difficult part for me to start a new essay.

I learned that the complete structure of an article needs to be abstract to the citation, which helps me understand how to construct a comprehensive article. Also, after I completed a series of writing steps, I learned many tips on how to improve my article. Compare to my first draft and second draft, my thinking has improved a lot. In the final draft, I learned to analyze better, I learn to use evidence to connect with my topic instead of going straight to the conclusion after I put all my evidence.

My writing skills are very weak, and this class has undoubtedly provided me a lot of help. When I write the first draft, I often feel confused, I have no clear idea of how to structure the subject of my article. I will receive many suggestions from classmates and professors to help me improve, and my main idea will get more clear. After much writing training in this class, I feel that my writing skills have been improved. Every time I got the professor’s comments in the first draft and it became an experience for me. Previously, my article was a chaotic structure, now I will pay attention to the coherence from top to bottom, formulate a clear theme so that each of my paragraphs has a central sentence. This has given me a lot of help in writing skills.

I chose “How Individual Upbringing Affects Young Adult Romantic Relationships” to review, the content and theme of the article echo each other, Each source has a complete argument description, I will give him 28 points in the content section. Because the connection between each new knowledge point is very smooth, it allows the reader to correlate the answers with each other and better understand the search results. The essay has cited more than five scholarly sources and connected with the theme, so I give 25 in the development section. I think the introduction gives more information to talking about a healthy relationship instead of explaining the question. The conclusion made good answering the question, I will give 17 in the organization section. The grammar is good and the topic attracts my attention to read, so I give full credit for these two sections. Each paragraph in structure is not too long, it should be above average.

I review “When words do more than just hurt” and giving 90 grades. The content analyzed the “Sulli” community culture that a kop star Sulli committed suicide due to verbal violence, and her fans gathered to mourn. The author records people with different opinions in the community and states objective facts. But I think she lacks some of her own subjective ideas. In terms of development, the author introduced the background behind the culture, such as the reason why Sulli was violent by online language. The organization of the entire article is very good, let readers understand the community. I think the author ’s search survey is very detailed, but I rarely see her own ideas. The topic is very attractive. Internet language violence is a serious problem in modern times.

By reading an excerpt from “Our Incel Problem” by Zack Beauchamp, he describes an incel (involuntary celibacy) community. In the past two decades, most of the Incel community has been affected by the community’s thinking and knowledge. A belief called “the blackpill” arises in this community, which is a sense of sexism. They mark women as a very low-level superficial creature, thinking that women will only choose excellent or attractive men. However, this belief is nothing but the dark side of their hearts, causing them to gradually separate from society.

The psychology of these patterns or trends informs the insider is relatively easily influenced by the behavior of others. As in the article, Abe suffered a bad emotional experience when he was young, the trauma in his heart transferred his emotions to the Internet. There are many young boys with similar experiences in the incel community, so when they get together, they will express their dissatisfaction. According to a survey of some users, most of these incels are under 30 years old and live in Europe or North America. The main attractor of this site is white. Their prejudice against women is the main issue discussed in this community. The incel ideology can easily push young people to extremes, and some terrorist attacks caused by incel have occurred in Toronto. In this community, they had many ideas of harming women and pushed the mistakes to women’s perspective. Gradually incel became a hate group that encouraged violence.

The author tells us about this group because it is not just a group that shares words. The existence of this community has already affected society. When we understand the mood and feelings of insiders, we can know what type of crowd they gather from. There is no doubt that we need to prevent their ideological violence from becoming behavioral violence.

I understand privilege here as a special right not enjoyed by ordinary people. My family is not very wealthy, but it also provides me with the best possible. Before I immigrated to the United States, I was in a private middle school and I felt a lot of the difference between private schools and public schools. Include the resources you have enjoyed and the circle of friends you have contacted. As well as my immigration to the United States, this is a privilege that comes from my born family. I don’t have to worry about my life. My parents have provided me with protection. This is what I have now. Still, I found some jobs through my own efforts. These jobs bring me life experience and I reach different people. There are also different people applying for the same job, but they did not get it, and my spare time work is also my own privilege. Due to financial support from my family and my own work, I came into contact with some of the online communities I searched for. I also pay attention to some specific clothing brands and buy some new arrivals that I like.

It is undeniable that the friends around me let me know the online community I am studying now. The pursuit of tide brand and fashion of people of different classes brings them together. For people with enough financial means, they can buy a lot of clothes, shoes or bags, and a large part of the group is young people. There are different age groups of followers for “Hypebeast”, but most are young. From my experience, some people spend money from their parents, and some people get what they want by working. A wealthy family gives them great privileges in the online community that I research. Financial ability is one of the most important factors in this community. Many people criticize this community, thinking that some people join this community just to satisfy their vanity. Not really like and love different brands.

“Out Patients”

In this reading “Out Patients”,  Elise Wu realized that she had a symptom of pretending to be sick. She is trying to portray the life of a patient with the same symptoms as her in this article. She searched the Internet for relevant information, but she didn’t think she was completely suffering from the problem. Elise wu creates a verbal portrait of this online community and this disease is referred to as FD. People with FD deliberately create physical or psychological symptoms to assume only the role of a patient. No other motivation But she observed that FDers couldn’t truly face the impact of the truth. For example, family members and friends around them and doctors are angry at them. And the emotion that they are not taken seriously makes these people post their true thoughts on the online community. She found the information and answers given on some of Dr. Marc Feldman’s web pages and learned more about the disease. She then learned about many FDers’ experiences by reading different messages in the forum. In order to get more details, she joined this community and she wants to know how many have found herself here. She triangulates data with different online resources. She looked up web page information, professional articles, and messages from various forums. Elsie Wu will mark the details of each of her records to help her organize the information more conveniently. Later she became aware of it and walked out of her pretending illness. The role of footnotes in wu’s text helps build credibility, not only for readers to better understand but also for articles that look more organized.

On Sunday afternoon, I came to a small Korean restaurant in Queens. Compared with the Korean restaurant next door, the space I went to was only one-third of the space next door. This restaurant is a bit old-fashioned. The environment in the shop is not that well, and the walls near the kitchen area are covered with soot. The tables and stools in the shop are old, and the menus on the glass are worn out. Compared to the good restaurants in the city, this place is more like a small restaurant deep in the street. The ordering boss is a middle-aged uncle. When I went in with friends, he greeted us warmly. He put the two tables in the corner together because we have three people. All the tables in the store are the same size and only two people can use it. When he finished ordering, I watched its kitchen, which is open and visible to all guests. There are only two cooktops, a younger chef and an old lady wearing an apron are employees. When he finished ordering, I watched its kitchen, which is open and visible to all guests. There are only two cooktops, a younger chef and an old lady wearing an apron are employees. The chef is in charge of cooking, and the other grandmother is in charge of making some sushi. This grandma brought kimchi and miso soup when she brought the meal. I learned that this is a Korean culture because Korean food is served with kimchi. I observed that the guests in the shop were only one at the table. They were two Spanish girls who were chatting happily. Occasionally, guests come in to see the menu and then take it away. Because of the congestion here, I see that most customers prefer the option to take away the food. Then I noticed that there were two Korean men who were older and looked like regulars in this shop. They are very good at greeting the staff in the store. I watched them sit up and watched the TV overhead. This restaurant has a TV set hanging on a very high wall. The TV broadcasts Korean news. The atmosphere in the shop is very warm, this shop is not like a professional commercial restaurant, and the staffs are very kind.  I think this is the unique charm of this small restaurant.

Response to “The Hustlers at Scores”

This reading tells the story of the lives of strippers who depend on Wall Street clients after the financial crisis. The club’s main customers were the men of Wall Street. These strippers can easily make a lot of money in one night. Like putting some medicine in their drink and then taking their credit card and wiping out a lot of money. There are also some subcultures in their careers, such as when they are over 30, they are no longer suitable to stay in this job, which is always suitable for young girls. They believe that “They are there for me to manipulate and take money from.” so they don’t feel guilty about making a lot of money from men. The reason these clubs stay open for so long is that men who have been cheated often don’t report them when they’re sober, because they don’t want to expose their sexuality and stupidity.

Rosie is from an immigrant family, from her family background that her parents left her when she was young, without a good education by her parents, her kid’s life was terrible. In particular, there was an elderly grandmother who needed to earn money to support her family. Her poor home environment led her to work as a stripper. Most strippers also come from poor families, which explains their growing desire to earn money in the job. For example, at first, they only want to earn 1000 dollars, then 10000 dollars and the increasing desire makes them unable to stop. And what we can learn from this background information about why they’re going to be strippers and getting more involved.

Pressler has created a living image by describing her informant’s life and work experience in the past. Explained why Rosie got used to this quick way of getting money, and in the company of her companions, she no longer found cheating or selling meat so strange and ugly. Also, a description of one of the strippers, named Samantha Barbash, gives readers a mental picture of her. It gives the changes in appearance caused by working in that kind of environment. In conclusion, this is not only the experience of strippers but also some of the pathologies in society. When girls don’t have a good diploma, they can’t find high-paying jobs when they go out of society. Then these can quickly get high – paying jobs have a great attraction for them.

Response to “A Report from Occupied Territory”

Racism has been brought out to the country since ancient times. Whether it was to the blacks, Asians or any other race, racism always existed. In this case, the negros were being abused by the white cops. The blacks were never sought as equal to the southern residents of America. Even if the blacks or negros were seen as animals in the eyes of whites, the blacks still had family that they had to take care of. In the article, a salesman named Frank Stafford has been brutally abused by the cops. Even though he has lost half his vision due to the encounter with the cops, he hasn’t sought revenge on the cops. Instead, he decides to take care of his family. This shows that no matter the race, everyone cares or deems their family more important than anything else in the world. Frank inspires many and if the past has seen the future meaning Frank, then the past would be proud to have such a descendant. The past should ask questions regarding what inspires and what motivates him to reframe himself from seeking vengeance. If he was a man of the past he would be a shining star to children of black or all children. In regards to his own mental and physical health, he still went and ask why the cops were beating the black child up and making life hell for them. Life as a child should undergo a pleasant and unhateful childhood to prevent their adulthood to be filled with hatred and suffering. I have a feeling this man could make great and inspiring speeches for all to hear. If he has the chance to ever come out of that hell he is currently living in, he should go and mold young minds to become better and more outstanding citizens. Other sources of information the fieldworkers should use to understand the culture are experience the life of a citizen of a free country. Such as our world today but even if the world is free, racism still occurs throughout the world we live in today. In our world today, people seem to judge others by their appearances and not by their personalities and what they might’ve experienced throughout their life. One might be seen as a homeless person to others, but he might’ve been a soldier of our country who experience the fear of war first handed. He who might’ve lost a limb and prevented him to furthermore carry out his life to the fullest. Therefore the fieldworkers should have a chance to experience life as a free citizen. There is no other better source than experiencing it first hand themselves.
